A Thousand Words: Almost Here

LOS ANGELES, CA-
I try to make the most of my 4 a.m. dog walks, moving our car to a better parking space, telling the dog to look for money. She wakes me up by punching me in the face. She is accurate. She will wait until I open my eyes before she sticks her paw, either one, right in my eye. Last night she fell asleep next to me, to my right, and slept so still that at least three times in the night, I put my hand on her belly to check for the rise and fall of breath. She started licking my right arm when she woke up a little before 4, the sound of her tongue in the dark filling our small apartment. I pulled Judy tighter into me with my other arm, pulling her lips to my chest. (more…)
